Separately, I’m also pleased to announce Star Group has signed a letter of intent with Multiplex to deliver the electrical services for the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital (ERH) which will service the Eurobodalla Shire from Narooma to Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast. The project will commence later this year with a target completion of mid-2026. A congratulations to the team involved in what was a lengthy tender process while the NSW government secured funding for the project. The award of ERH extends Star Group’s significant track record in delivering critical health infrastructure across NSW as well as our longstanding relationship with Multiplex.
Technology Improvements
Late last year I mentioned we were embarking on a review of our use of systems across the Group. That review was completed last month, and we’re now proceeding with a formal request for proposal (RFP) to select system suppliers. While it would be fair to say several aspects of our business could be further improved to varying degrees with better technology, our priority focus for the remainder of 2024 is on the selection and implementation of a modern system our project teams can use to better track and manage projects and address many of our older paper or excel based processes including manual purchase orders. Another key focus area for improvement is digitising our HSEQ processes for our site and field-based teams. Finally, we’re also shortly rolling out a new expense reimbursement system to replace the paper based expense form process.
I know technology improvement is a big theme for many of our people from our last engagement survey, and I thank you for your patience as we work through this diligently to make the right improvements that will take us forward for years to come.
NAIDOC Week
Moving ahead to July, last week we recognised NAIDOC Week, with our sites encouraged to conduct their pre-starts in a yarning circle, a conversational process that has been used in Indigenous communities for thousands of years.
Indigenous participation is a strategic focus for the Group, and it’s been great to see the progress made in 2024 in welcoming new Indigenous employees, particularly in the Northern region at the John Hunter Health & Innovation Precinct and BAE Williamtown projects. Looking forward, we’re focussed on continuing to build relationships that can help us engage with Indigenous groups and promote career pathways and employment opportunities at Star Group.
