Hi all,
Announcing our first peer recognition winners
Today I'm excited to announce the first batch of winners and nominees for our new quarterly peer recognition program. As a reminder, the program provides each of us the opportunity to formally celebrate and reward our peers who demonstrate our Think Safe, Act Safe, Home Safe motto or one of the company values in their work. For this first batch, we had 34 nominations across the five award categories, with the winners decided upon by vote from the senior management team.
A congratulations to all our winners and nominees who act as role models in their day-to-day work!

Improving our technology
As identified in our engagement survey, there is work to be done in improving our processes and the use of technology to make us more effective in our roles. As one example of progress in this area, a shout out to Sue O'Shea and the SE Distribution team, who, in September, launched an online ordering platform for our Sydney Construction and E&I projects. The platform eliminates the need for paper-based orders of warehouse-stocked items, provides a live view of stocked items, and supports quicker delivery to the site. In future, the platform will have the ability to order supplier-quoted items and will also be rolled out across the business more broadly, including regionally.
More generally, we recently established a Technology Working Group with a focus on identifying and implementing technology solutions for HSEQ and project operational delivery and have engaged external support to review our systems group-wide. I look forward to providing you with updates on these initiatives in the coming months.
New business
On the new business front, for September, congratulations to:
- Audio Visual, for picking up the AV package for the St. George Hospital Stage 3 redevelopment with New Edge Group for client Besix Watpac.
- ACT Branch, for picking up tunnel remediation works at Old Parliament House with client Manteena.
- Wollongong Branch, for picking the electrical upgrade works at Tesla Port Kembla with new client Fraser Property – Industrial.
As I've touched on previously, data centres are a target sector recognising the volume of data centres being developed in support of AI and cloud computing, and our capability to deliver such work through our experience in large-scale essential service & mission critical projects. Recently a few of us attended the Sydney Cloud & Data Centre Convention, and I thought it would be worth mentioning a quite remarkable stat that was shared, which simply summarises why the sector is booming - 90% of the world's data was created in the last two years! At present, we're tracking a number of data centre opportunities in the pipeline, all in the greater Sydney area.
Supporting our communities
I'd like to end this update by thanking again all staff who participated in STEPtember for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, either through their steps, donations, or both. Your fundraising of $15,310, placed us 95th out of 2,000 registered organisations, putting Star Group in great company amongst Australia's most recognised corporate brands.
Cheers,
John
