STAR Group promotes industry-leading standards of cultural diversity and inclusion in the workplace, strongly reflecting the positive changes occurring in the society of which we are an integral part. We are committed to providing a workplace environment where people are treated in accordance with the values of equality of race, gender and culture, with respect and freedom from unlawful discrimination, harassment, vilification and bullying.

Our people

At STAR Group, our workforce consists of people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds who bring positive experiences and knowledge, which further enrich the culture within STAR Group and our relationships with clients.

STAR Group is proud to use our workforce inclusiveness as an asset to encourage further diversity and thus ensure our brand and industry are attractive to a diverse range of people. This attraction is further enhanced by having a comprehensive diversity strategy endorsed by supporting policies, which recognise that our workforce has diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives that should be respected and taken into consideration in the way STAR Group conducts its operations and business.

STAR Group believes inclusion occurs when a diversity of people (e.g. of different ages, cultural backgrounds, genders, religious beliefs) feel valued and respected, have equal access to opportunities and resources, and can contribute their perspectives and talents to improve our organisation.

Creating an inclusive workplace is fundamental to maximising diversity within STAR Group and helping our organisation succeed and lead by setting an example. STAR Group has developed and implemented resources to help ensure inclusive practice and thus lift performance and wellbeing. These include our:

  • Diversity Policy
  • Taste of Harmony Day

Indigenous Participation

STAR Group actively encourages indigenous participation in our workforce and undertakes to achieve a better appreciation of indigenous cultures throughout our organisation by linking our diversity practices to support the future success of STAR Group.

As part of our commitment to having a diverse workforce that represents the communities in which our organisation works, STAR Group supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by offering workforce participation initiatives and engaging young people through apprenticeship and trainee programs.

STAR Group also works in partnership with Indigenous Employment Groups and Supply Nation members to establish goods and services goals that reflect the communities in which our projects and operations are based.

STAR Group is proud of the success of our indigenous plan, which has seen our indigenous participation increase by an average of 7% per year for the last three years.

Women of STAR Group

Our organisation understands that the industries in which we work have traditionally been male-dominated, thus excluding themselves from the strong talents, capabilities and perspectives of able and well-qualified women who have so much to offer.

It is our continued focus to facilitate greater access to meaningful career opportunities for women by boosting career opportunities across all disciplines – including engineering, graduates, project managers and corporate governance – so STAR Group can provide leadership in promoting gender equality.

STAR Group believes our policies of equality and gender respect will help to ensure the ongoing success and sustainable growth of STAR Group via the unique value that women bring to our organisation, which has increased the number of women employed in each of the past three years.
