The construction industry can be known to "shout safety but whisper health" and, as a result, has some of the highest rates of mental ill health, including double the rate of suicide compared to the national average. At Star Group, we are committed to changing this narrative and creating a culture of openness and support regarding mental health.
To better equip our people to have conversations about mental health, Star Group has engaged ADA Australia to hold three two-day courses to become accredited in mental health first aid. The course provides participants with practical first aid skills for assisting someone experiencing mental health problems or in a mental health crisis – whether a co-worker, family member or others.
Thank you to ADA Australia for equipping our staff with the tools they need to support those struggling with mental health. The course was informative, relevant, and well-paced, and the trainers were incredibly knowledgeable about the subject matter and passionate with their delivery of the course materials.
