As we observe World Suicide Prevention Day in Australia, it's important to reflect on the significance of mental fitness and the commendable efforts made by individuals and communities to champion this cause.

An example of such commitment is shown by Star Group’s Head of People, Culture & Communications, Ryan Davey, who took part in the 24-Hour Row Building Mental Fitness event, an initiative hosted by the Gotcha4Life Foundation over the weekend.

The challenge required a roster of rowers to keep at least two rowing machines going for 24 hours. Ryan played his part by completing over 31 km of rowing in 2 and a half hours. His efforts, along with the support of his team and community, helped raise over $6500 and promoted mental fitness in his boardriders club and broader community.

This event is more than just a physical challenge. Ryan said, “After losing one of his young boardriders members to suicide last year, this event was about bringing awareness to suicide prevention in the community and ensuring that young people know there is help available.”

Mental health issues and suicide are battles we cannot ignore, and it's essential to highlight and support the efforts being made towards building a mentally fit and supportive community.

Congratulations Ryan and everyone involved in the 24-Hour Row Building Mental Fitness event! Your dedication not only contributes to a significant cause but also serves as an inspiration for others to take action and support mental health initiatives in their own communities.
